Colour Concepts

First in a wave of colour concepts for the film. Two of the shots are new ones that have not been added into the PreVis yet but came about as a result of feedback.

After feedback on character design there were concerns that there was not a consistent enough style through the character, phoenix and ship. This is the first in new development concepts featuring the main character.

Slight tweak of storyboards; More character development at start including added motivation, reoccurring feather theme throughout to tie in story elements, re-shoot on some actions and some clarity shots on key actions.

Update to Story and Initial Thumbnails

So the story has changed slightly to address some issues both narratively and technically.

The man is motivated by hunting the phoenix. In attacking the phoenix it crashes into his ship and sends out of the sky. Additionally the phoenix uses its last energy to save the man when he falls of the ship, and protects him when he hits the ground. It is in this instance that the phoenix ash comes down and causes a new phoenix to arise from within the man. This means that the ship is never seen crashing and the phoenix and man 'fuse' at the same time. (Previously the

phoenix would have been left in the air) I think the changes also add to a higher pace story.

Initial Development

I am currently studying at the University of Hertfordshire doing 3D Digital Animation. This is my development blog for my third year final major project entitled 'Evol'. I hope to update this blog on a weekly basis showing my weeks work.

I am currently in the process on getting a concrete story idea

down and initial concepts / storyboards. I have already developed the idea from my initial story thoughts and test concepts as attached to this blog. Hopefully I will have some new concepts up soon.

Story Treatment;

A man searching for a mythical phoenix in an attempt to unlock the secret of eternal life finds he has to sacrifice more then he intended for his immortality.

An explorer is searching the skies in his airship looking for a phoenix believed to hold the key to eternal life. However when he finds the bird it turns on the man and blazes through his ship sending him plummeting to the ground. Whilst the phoenix turns to ash the explorer tries to escape his impending doom but gets trapped in the decaying ship, holding on for his life. The ship hits the ground and the explorer crawls weakly from the wreckage. As he falls to the floor his soul seeps out and fuses with the phoenix’s ashes and a new phoenix arises from within him. The bird reaches to the skies; the man has his immortality but lost his body.
